Places to see

Relax in one of the city’s verdant parks or gardens, enjoy a round on the golf course, or explore some of Hiroshima’s history at one of this prefecture’s two World Heritage Sites.

The first is the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, which stands as a memorial to those lost to the atomic bomb in 1945.

The second is Itsukushima Shrine, located in Miyajima (the “Shrine Island”). Itsukushima - in it’s original form - is believed to date back to the 6th century, though it has been destroyed and rebuilt many times in the intervening years.

Along with these cultural landmarks, Hiroshima has a wealth of other things to see and do in and around the city.

In the downtown area you’ll find a wide variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment. This is also a good chance for you to try one of the city’s culinary specialities: Hiroshima- style okonomiyaki. Best described as a kind of savoury pancake, okomiyaki is typically loaded with tasty toppings and sauces, and Hiroshima’s variant has a taste all of it’s own.
