Hakone Onsen

Hakone is a town located in the southwestern part of Kanagawa Prefecture, about 80km west of Central Tokyo. It is a part of the Fuji Hakone Izu National Park. Hakone is famous for hot-spring resort areas such as Hakoneyumoto, Goura, Owakudani, and there are a total of 17 hot-spring areas to choose from. Hakone is the fifth largest source of hot springs in Japan.
		There are also dramatic natural sights such as the Owakudani Valley, Lake Ashi, Mt. Komagatake and Sengokugahara (the Sengoku Plain). In addition, there are numerous parks and botanical gardens, including Hakone Gora Park and Onshi-Hakone Park, which feature displays of seasonal flowers.
		The Hakone Ekiden (a road relay race), which runs from Tokyo to Hakone and back over a two-day period every New Year, is popular entertainment among Japanese people.
		Hakone is known as a historical checkpoint on the old Tokaido Road, which linked the eastern and western parts of Japan. Many historic buildings remain to this day, and Hakone has also become home to some wonderful showcases of art and crafts. Attractions include the Hakone Open-Air Museum (Japan's first open-air museum), the Venetian Glass Museum, the Little Prince Museum, and the Pola Museum of Art.
		Hakone's substantial array of tourist attractions brings in about 19 million visitors every year.
		A direct bus from Tokyo International Airport(Haneda) will start on Nov. 1st, 2011.

		As soon as you leave Hakoneyumoto station, you can see the main street where there are many restaurants and souvenir shops. Within walk distance, there are also many hotels and Ryokan (Japanese Inn).
		It is also nice trip to visit Tonosawa hot spring resort. It talks only 5 minutes by Hakone-Tozan rail.

The main sightseeing spots is around the station and Fujiya hotel. The area has perfect mixed the culture between Japan and Western countries. The nostalgic shopping street "Sepia Street" is also popular. 
		It takes only 5 minutes to reach Kowakudani by Hakone-tozan line. There are many remarkable sightseeing spots in Hakone such as Yunessun where you can enjoy more than 25 kinds of hot springs or the park "Horaien" which is famous for azalea or colour changing.

		Located next to Lake Ashi and it used to be one of the Checkpoints out of 53 which were settled during Edo period (17-19 century). One of the main roles of the Hakone Checkpoint was to control 'incoming guns and outgoing women', which means to prevent weapons from being brought into Tokyo and wives and children of feudal lords from fleeing from Tokyo. It was closed in 1869 but you can still enjoy seeing the building and feel the old days in there.

		It is very popular shrine and located in the edge of Lake Ashi. There are 2 torii gates. One of them is on the lake and looks they are floating in the water. Another is Mototsumiya (this is original shrine) at the base of Mt Komagatake.
